A kidnapping survivor, Victor N. Izuchukwu, popularly known as Abuja Korea, has accused the Nigerian Police of releasing the gang that allegedly attempted to kill him in 2023, including the suspected ringleader, who he claims now openly boasts that no consequences will follow.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Victor recounts in disturbing detail how he was attacked inside his Abuja residence by his own workers and left for dead, only to later learn that the police had freed the suspects. Among them was an elderly security guard known as Baba, whom Victor alleged led the attackers into his home.

Victor said the incident began as a normal morning but quickly turned into a violent ambush on November 27, 2023. Earlier that day, one of his workers approached him seeking financial assistance, and he gave the worker ₦5,000, after which the man left appearing pleased.

Hours later, Victor said his dog began barking unusually, prompting him to move toward the fence, where he saw one of his workers, identified as Damina, loading a rifle. According to him, the man immediately opened fire upon seeing him, forcing him to run behind the house.

Victor explained that he hid inside the ceiling through a manhole while contacting security agencies as the attackers continued firing shots and attempting to break into rooms. He said the attackers later accessed the roof using his water tank, where one of them, armed with an AK-47 and a machete, tried to strike him. During the struggle, Victor said he hit the attacker’s head, causing both of them to fall from the roof.

He added that other attackers then descended on him, repeatedly hacking him with machetes. Despite pleading with them not to take him away and offering to give them any amount of money, the assailants refused and continued the assault. Victor said one of them slashed his abdomen, causing his intestines to spill out, which he tried to hold in place while fleeing.

While attempting to reach the gate, he said he was shot in the leg and collapsed. He recalled hearing the attackers speaking a mixture of Fulani and English and identified the security guard, Baba, as the person who led them into the house.

Although police officers arrived at the scene early, Victor claimed they only fired warning shots from a distance and failed to engage the attackers directly. He alleged that Baba then urged the gunmen to either shoot him or flee upon realizing police were nearby. According to Victor, the attackers fired multiple shots at him, believing he was dead, before leaving.

Neighbours later came to his rescue after he began shouting for help once the attackers had gone. His brother arrived at the scene thinking Victor was delivering his final words. Victor said the attackers’ intention was to kidnap him, but they instead tried to kill him.

He further claimed that Baba later returned to where he lay to confirm whether he was truly dead. Victor said the police eventually arrested the security guard and rushed him to the hospital, though several facilities allegedly refused to treat him. Victor himself was also rejected by multiple hospitals before being admitted at the National Hospital, where doctors reportedly considered amputating his leg. He was later transferred to Cedar Crest Hospital and discharged in early January.

Defying medical advice, Victor said he personally tracked down some of the attackers after his discharge and handed one of them over to the Nigerian Police. He added that another suspect was arrested in Nasarawa State.

However, during follow-up on the case, Victor said he discovered that Baba, whom he identified as the ringleader, had been released on the grounds of old age, with assurances that he could be re-arrested at any time. He claimed his Investigating Police Officer later confirmed that the suspects had confessed to the crime, yet the release still occurred.

Victor accused both the police and the judiciary of compromising the case, alleging misconduct during court proceedings. He said a different police officer was brought in to testify, presenting accounts that favored the suspects and contradicted his experience. Victor stated that he informed the court that the officer who testified was not his assigned Investigating Police Officer, whose name he identified as Zakari.
