Women In Politics, an advocacy movement dedicated to empowering women financially, mentally, and physically, has organized a pastry competition aimed at celebrating women's talents, promoting entrepreneurship, and encouraging greater participation of women in leadership.
The empowerment event, which held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Jonel Garden, Ejigbo, Lagos, featured a pastry competition where winners received cash prizes. The first-place winner was awarded ₦50,000, while the second and third-place winners received ₦30,000 and ₦20,000 respectively.
The event, convened by Comrade Lady Emem Tity Elijah, brought together dignitaries, community leaders, activists, and women from across Lagos State to witness the empowerment of female contestants and attendees through financial support, mentorship, and encouragement.
Among the dignitaries present were Hon. Makanjuola Oluwafemi, Action Alliance Federal House of Representatives Candidate for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2; Comrade Tabansi Claribel, Lagos State Obidient Women Mobilizer; Comrade Ifeanyi Mbah, the organizing secretary; Comrade Bawa; Comrade Chioma; Barrister Iheme Godwin; Comrade Martha Joseph; Comrade Chidinma, among others.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Tabansi Claribel encouraged women to embrace unity and support one another despite political differences or past disagreements.
She said, “We can fight online and all, but it must not go beyond that. We can't afford to fight amongst ourselves. Not now that we have some of us contesting for public offices. It is time we come together and support all women contesting. Even if they made mistakes before, let's give them another opportunity to correct themselves.
“When men come, we can negotiate, but once it is women, we must support them. No politics of hate. No more use and dump.”
The Convener of Women In Politics, Comrade Lady Emem Tity Elijah, expressed excitement over the realization of a dream she had nurtured for years, noting that the difficult realities faced by women in society inspired the creation of the empowerment movement.
She lamented that despite the enormous contributions of women to political movements and governance, many women remain neglected after elections.
“Women work harder in politics but receive meager rewards. Aside from being the mothers of Presidents, Senators, Honourables, Governors and Ministers, when it comes to supporting candidates, we put in all our best. Only to be forgotten when they get to power. But that's enough,” she said.
“Now we are going to take our rightful places in power so our voice can be heard and respected.”
She added that the movement was established to educate, support, and empower women mentally, financially, and physically to enable them to live better lives.
Lady Emem further announced that Women In Politics would provide free campaign support to all women contesting for political offices who approach the movement. She also revealed plans to provide free e-commerce websites for women entrepreneurs to advertise their businesses and offer free dispatch rider services to assist with product deliveries.
One of the judges of the pastry competition, Chef Martha, advised women to maintain cleanliness, focus, speed, and good presentation while working in the kitchen, describing these qualities as important factors that contribute to a successful home and professional growth.
The pastry competition produced three winners: Mrs. Chinasa Angella Enukora, who emerged first place; Mrs. Precious Chimuanya Ibeabuchi, who came second; and Mrs. Ebhohimhen Clementina Ehi, who secured third place.
The winners appreciated Lady Emem and members of Women In Politics for providing them with the opportunity to showcase their skills and receive recognition for their efforts.
Towards the end of the program, attendees who participated in the NDC primary election exercise at Ajao Estate in support of Mr. Ikechukwu and had not received their stipends were invited to come forward. Twenty-six individuals, both male and female, were identified and paid.
In addition, all women who attended the empowerment program received financial support and food items as appreciation for their participation.
The event ended with renewed calls for women to unite, support one another, and take a more active role in political leadership and economic empowerment.
