Aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections converged on Okota Ward in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II on March 15, 2026, as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held its second general meeting.
The meeting provided a platform for aspirants to formally declare their intentions and engage with party executives and members at the ward level, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilization.
Among those present were ward executives, including Comrade Christian Ihunwa (Chairman), Comrade Wilfred I. Onyiagha (Vice Chairman), Ambassador Emeka Ihejirika (Secretary), Comrade Chioma Onwuemeli (Organising Secretary), Comrade Ifeanyi Okwesili (Deputy Organising Secretary), Comrade Daniel Ogah (Financial Secretary), Comrade Maxwell C. Osisiogu (Youth Leader), Comrade Julius Ezurike (Public Relations Officer), and Comrade Anaestesia Nwaeke (Assistant Public Relations Officer). Other party stakeholders and supporters were also in attendance.
Addressing members, the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area (LGA) Vice Chairman of the party, Mr. Emmanuel Obiora, urged sustained mobilization and described the 2027 elections as critical to the party’s future.
He commended the turnout at the meeting but stressed the need for greater commitment among members. Obiora also highlighted the party’s stance on inclusiveness, noting its emphasis on youth and women participation. He announced plans for an upcoming women-focused event in the LGA, as well as the hosting of the Lagos State Youth Summit.
One of the aspirants for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Ogundimu Olushola Raphael, appealed for support, promising quality representation and improved delivery of constituency benefits. He said his candidacy was driven by the party’s principles and his professional background as a chartered accountant, adding that he would ensure transparency in the use of public funds and establish a functional constituency office.
During an interactive session, a party member, Mr. Ezenwa Michael, questioned the aspirant’s sincerity, citing past experiences with candidates who failed to deliver on their promises. In response, Ogundimu acknowledged the concerns, outlining his track record in job creation through his private enterprise and pledging to support electoral security efforts.
Also at the meeting, High Chief John Akpati, a stakeholder and representative of the sitting House of Representatives member for the constituency, endorsed Mr. Ikechukwu Uwaefule as his preferred aspirant for the State House of Assembly seat.
In his remarks, Uwaefule criticized what he described as a disconnect between elected officials and the electorate, promising to prioritize the welfare of constituents if elected.
Another aspirant, Engineer Gerald Onwuachu, who is seeking the House of Representatives seat for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, cautioned against supporting unqualified candidates. He said his ambition was driven by a desire to address what he termed years of poor representation and neglect, adding that he had consistently supported party activities and community initiatives.
Speaking on gender inclusion, the LGA Women Leader, Mrs. Angela Andishu, called on women to remain united and actively participate in the political process. She emphasized the importance of empowering women, noting that it has a ripple effect on families and society at large.
Party members were also cautioned against alleged attempts by some individuals to manipulate consensus arrangements within the ward, as leaders urged transparency and fairness in the selection process.
The meeting underscored growing political activity within the ADC at the grassroots level as aspirants intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.
