A sixth individual has been charged with conspiring to facilitate illegal immigration as part of a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation into people smuggling.

Kamal Chowdhury, 47, a cab driver from Tower Hamlets in East London, was arrested by NCA officers at his home on Thursday, January 29.

Following questioning, he was charged and appeared before Bromley Magistrates' Court on February 2.

His arrest follows those of five other men during an NCA operation on January 26 and 27, which resulted in a lorry being intercepted at Dover Port, where 23 Bangladeshi nationals were found onboard.

All six men have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, March 2.
