In early February 2026, the Nigerian film industry was shaken by the sudden and tragic deaths of two behind-the-scenes veterans on a movie set in Lekki. Godstime “GeeTee” Imeh, a respected lighting director and CEO of GeeTee Light, and Ayodeji Walter Odediran, popularly known as Director Carrington, were discovered lifeless inside a vehicle on set, leaving colleagues and fans in shock.

GeeTee was widely recognized for his work on blockbuster films like King of Boys and numerous high-profile music videos, while Carrington, a creative cinematographer and video director, had been a close childhood friend and frequent collaborator of Imeh. Together, they were considered pillars of Nollywood’s production community.

On Saturday, February 7, the pair arrived early at Evercare Hospital, Lekki Phase 1, which was serving as the filming location for a project reportedly directed by former Big Brother Naija housemate, Boma Akpore. After setting up lighting equipment, they reportedly went to rest inside Imeh’s tinted Nissan, leaving the air conditioning running while waiting for the next scene.

Around 11:00 AM, a crew member delivered breakfast—yam and omelets—but the duo appeared healthy and in good spirits. Hours later, as filming wrapped at approximately 8:00 PM, colleagues found the two men unresponsive. Witnesses reported alarming signs of physical distress, including foaming at the mouth and bloodstains, sparking immediate concern.

Preliminary investigations quickly ruled out food poisoning. Autopsy results released later in February revealed that Carrington had no food in his stomach, while Imeh had only a minimal amount, suggesting they may not have eaten the breakfast delivered to them. Authorities have not confirmed a final cause of death, though the circumstances—resting in a parked car with the engine and air conditioning running—point to possible carbon monoxide poisoning, a silent hazard that has tragically claimed lives in similar situations.

The case has progressed under multiple layers of investigation. Initially handled by Maroko Police Station, it was later escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba. Investigators have reviewed CCTV footage from the Evercare Hospital premises and questioned the film’s producer and crew members. One crew member, who delivered the breakfast, was briefly detained to help rule out foul play or intentional poisoning.

Toxicology and histology tests on tissue and blood samples are ongoing, with results expected in the coming weeks to determine whether harmful gases or other substances contributed to the deaths.

As Nollywood grapples with this shocking loss, the industry mourns not just the deaths of two gifted professionals, but the sudden silence of two voices that helped shape the craft behind the camera—a stark reminder of the unseen risks sometimes lurking behind the lights of the silver screen.
