The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has apprehended two women over an alleged attempt to smuggle prohibited substances into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Goron Dutse, Kano.

In a statement released by the Command’s Correctional Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Musbahu Lawan Knassarawa, the incident was said to have occurred on December 21, 2025, during routine security screening at the facility.

The suspects, identified as Maryam Ali and Hauwa Musa, both between the ages of 19 and 20 and residents of Kano State, were intercepted while attempting to enter the custodial centre.

Security personnel reportedly found suspected illicit drugs on them, which initial investigations suggested were intended for inmates.

Knassarawa described the act as a grave breach of Nigerian Correctional Service regulations and a criminal offence under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

After their arrest, the suspects were transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and appropriate legal proceedings.

The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service reiterated its resolve to uphold strict security measures, discipline, and zero tolerance for illegal activities within and around correctional facilities.

The Command also cautioned the public to adhere strictly to visitation rules at custodial centres, stressing that any violation would be addressed in line with the law.
