At this point, it is no longer just embarrassing it is shameful that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu displays more passion defending the Republic of Benin from coup plot than defending the Nigerian lives being taken like stray chickens on a daily basis. The message is clear, foreign headlines matter more to this administration than the blood of its own citizens.
Insecurity has turned Nigeria into an open graveyard. Entire families wiped out. Communities erased. Highways controlled by terrorists. Citizens kidnapped like merchandise. Yet this government behaves as if Nigerian suffering is just a background.
The growing nonchalance of this administration toward daily insecurity across the country raises serious concerns and suspicious of this government involvement on insurgency and painful questions about its true priorities.
For years, Nigerians have cried out over killings, kidnappings, banditry, and insurgency, yet we continue to see delayed or inadequate responses at home neither will the president address the nation. Then suddenly, when a political crisis or unrest emerges in a neighboring country, we witness swift action, rapid military mobilization, and decisive engagement. It leaves many Nigerians wondering why the same level of commitment is not shown when our own citizens are under attack.
It is alarming and embarrassing that our government can demonstrate capability in foreign situations while failing to deploy the same determination to restore peace and security within our borders. Nigeria is battling insecurity on multiple fronts, yet the urgency shown abroad is not reflected at home. This contradiction is a shame to the Nigerian state and an insult to citizens who continue to suffer daily.
I never knew Nigeria owned functional fighter jets until the recent failed coup attempt in the Republic of Benin that was the first time this government suddenly remembered it had military assets. Meanwhile, Nigerians have been living like refugees in their own homeland, overrun by terrorists, bandits, and killers for years, yet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has never shown the same urgency or capacity to deploy those jets or troops to defend his own people.
How is it that the President becomes a lion abroad but a ghost at home? How can a leader who has never addressed Nigerians during recurring massacres find his voice immediately when it concerns another country? It raises one disturbing question, Why does this government only act like it cares when Nigerians are not involved?
This double standard is not just incompetence it is an insult to every family burying loved ones while their government plays regional savior. Nigeria is burning, but this administration is busy collecting applause for foreign intervention. It is the behavior of a government desperate for international relevance, not one committed to national responsibility.
As a human rights activist and freedom fighter I will say what many fear to say, a government that cannot secure its own people has forfeited the moral right to pretend it can secure anyone else. Leadership is not a photo opportunity. Protection is not a PR stunt. Nationhood is not theatre.
Nigerians demand honesty, not theatrics. We demand protection, not excuses. We demand a government that treats Nigerian lives as precious not expendable. Anything else is not governance it is a betrayal wrapped in propaganda.
