In an exclusive podcast with Pinkvilla, Amaal Mallik opened up about his struggles in the early stages of his career. The Bigg Boss Season 19 contestant shared that he was often fired from jobs as soon as people found out about his family background.
Amaal Mallik, one of today’s prominent music composers, recently sat down with Pinkvilla for a candid conversation where he reflected on various phases of his life.
During the discussion, Amaal spoke about his initial years in the industry and revealed how, despite his family’s connections in the music world, he struggled for over a decade. He shared, “From the age of 15 to 25, what I experienced in those 10 years was challenging. People may see this as a different timeline, but for me, those struggles, those difficulties, and obstacles were all part of my early life. They were important lessons.”
He went on to explain, “At 15, I was already on the streets, trying to work as an assistant or even as a runner. I would carry hard drives for post-production or do anything that made me a little money because that was something I had to do as a son.”
Amaal also opened up about how his family name worked against him in the industry. “Whenever I managed to get a job as an assistant, the moment they found out my surname was Mallik, they would let me go, thinking, 'He’s from that family, he might sell out our music.’ It was this kind of stereotype. It worked against me and my brother (Armaan Mallik). It's not like our name automatically gave us everything on a platter,” he concluded.
