Lagos, Nigeria

African Democratic Congress holding meeting in Mushin local government

The African Democratic Congress in Mushin Local Government finally held its meeting on February 13, 2026, after being obstructed last November, allegedly by the Nigerian Police Force and hoodlums belonging to the ruling party, APC.

Lagos stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress converged at the party's first local government general meeting of the year 2026 in Mushin, after the alleged obstruction last year.

In attendance were Comrade Oba, ADC Youth Leader, Lagos State; Comrade Bolaji Akinfenwa, ADC Chairman, Mushin LGA; Comrade Hallelujah, ADC Deputy Chairman, Mushin LGA; Mrs. Nkiru Eligwe, ADC Secretary, Mushin LGA; Mrs. Ugwu, ADC Woman Leader, Mushin LGA; Comrade Olushola Omolaye, ADC Youth Leader, Mushin LGA; Comrade Nathan Okeke, ADC Treasurer, Mushin LGA; Mrs. Feyisara Ayala, ADC Deputy Woman Leader, Mushin LGA; Comrade Mansa, ADC Stakeholder, Mushin; Comrade Ganiyu Olanrewaju, ADC Stakeholder, Mushin; Aunty Martins Jadesola, ADC Stakeholder, Mushin; the Ward Chairmen, and Comrade Isreal, a 2027 political aspirant.

The ADC State Youth Leader, Comrade Oba, admonished the party's Mushin LGA Chairman to stay focused even if he is hurt.

He said, "I am happy Mushin Local Government executives inform the state of whatever they're doing. It shows the love and cordiality between the state and LGA. I pray God gives you the wisdom to continue leading the local government forward. It is not easy, but I am happy with this large turnout I am seeing.

I want to advise you to keep moving forward. You may be hurt, especially by your enemies, but try to be five times ahead of them. I urge the LGA to involve women in more duties. Give them more room to perform. Women see and hear more than men. And you women should also work with the chairman."

Comrade Bolaji Akinfenwa, the Mushin LGA Chairman, in a question-and-answer session, assured disturbed members that all tendencies are to harmonize the platform, but ADC only recognizes INEC-listed executives.

He said, "Our ultimate aim is to win the coming election, and we can't do it divided. As the chairman of the LGA, I have personally approached support groups to accommodate them into the party. I don't discriminate against anybody. It is together we can win against APC. All tendencies are to harmonize the platform, though the party is against grouping."

He added, "Everything starts from the grassroots. That's why I implore us to keep mobilizing, and ward executives should be ready to work with polling unit executives."

Speaking to a WINGLESS reporter, Comrade Olushola Omolaye, Mushin LGA Youth Leader, presented the party as a rescue boat for Nigerian masses.

He said, "The APC-led government, both at the federal and state levels, has brought the masses insecurities, hunger, a burdensome tax system, and other inhumane atrocities. Just last week, about one hundred and forty-seven people were killed in Kwara. Under a good government that values lives, such wouldn't have happened. ADC as a party is saddled with the responsibility of rescuing the masses from the present bad government. I call on all Nigerian masses to rise with us and deliver ourselves from APC bad leaders who have brought miseries upon us come 2027."

It is important to remember that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faced a series of attacks and obstructions in Lagos last year, raising concerns about political freedom and safety in the state. On September 6, 2025, a rally organized by the ADC’s Lagos State chapter, led by former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, was violently disrupted by suspected political thugs in Alimosho Local Government Area.

The event, which was set to host former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Lagos governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, was stormed by miscreants who dispersed participants and injured attendees. Eyewitnesses alleged the attackers were supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Police at the scene were overwhelmed and made no arrests.

A day earlier, on September 5, 2025, police sealed off Lion Field in Alimosho, a venue already approved for the ADC meeting. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour accused the APC of using state institutions to stifle opposition, calling the sealing of the venue an assault on democracy. ADC members said they had secured all necessary approvals before the venue was barricaded.

Beyond these incidents, ADC leaders in Lagos have repeatedly alleged ongoing harassment and intimidation by political thugs across the state’s 20 LGAs, with security agencies often appearing powerless to intervene. These events paint a troubling picture of obstruction and violence against opposition political activities in Lagos, with accusations of state and party-backed interference.
