As Nigerians marked the close of Ramadan and prepared for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) used the moment not only to extend goodwill but also to deliver a pointed critique of the nation’s leadership, urging immediate and comprehensive reforms.
At the heart of the party’s message was a growing concern about what it described as a lack of direction in governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking in Abuja, the National Director of the ADC’s Change Program, Prof. Olumuyiwa Babalola, painted a stark picture of a country grappling with economic strain, rising insecurity, and dwindling public confidence.
According to him, Nigeria’s challenges are being deepened by what he termed “policy emptiness masked as governance,” stressing that the absence of clear, structured, and measurable national programs has left citizens bearing the burden of ineffective leadership.
Against this backdrop, Babalola positioned the ADC’s National Change Program as a deliberate departure from the status quo. He described it as a comprehensive framework designed to address governance inefficiencies, stimulate economic recovery, invest in human capital, and strengthen social protection systems. Central to the program, he noted, is a strong emphasis on civic participation and strict performance tracking to ensure accountability.
While outlining the party’s vision, he also acknowledged key figures contributing to its growth and direction. He commended Lauretta Onochie for her role in mobilizing grassroots support across the country and recognized Ralph Nwosu for maintaining the party’s reform-oriented trajectory.
Blending political messaging with the spirit of the season, Babalola extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslim faithful, calling for unity and a shared commitment to national renewal. He emphasized that the period of reflection and sacrifice should inspire collective action toward rebuilding the country.
“Nigeria needs leadership that delivers, not excuses,” he said, reinforcing the urgency of change.
The ADC, in its closing remarks, reiterated its pledge to offer practical solutions and responsible leadership, expressing confidence in its ability to help steer Nigeria toward stability and prosperity.
