Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has launched a massive empowerment package worth N1 billion, targeting thousands of young residents, mostly GSM repairers and technicians. The initiative aims to equip 1,050 youths with skills in phone repairs and maintenance, while 3,000 apprentices will receive cash support.

Under the program, each beneficiary will receive a complete set of modern working tools, including specialized equipment such as hot air rework stations and digital multimeters. The tools are designed to enhance their repair businesses and provide a steady income.

The disbursement will be made in four categories, with beneficiaries receiving varying amounts of cash support, ranging from N100,000 to N1 million. The training cost is estimated at N482 million, a testament to the government's commitment to investing in the youth.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Zulum expressed his pleasure and sense of fulfillment, saying, "It gives me immense pleasure and a deep sense of fulfilment to stand before you today on this historic occasion." He recalled several initiatives by his administration aimed at investing in human capital development.

Zulum highlighted the administration's efforts to sponsor youths to study aircraft piloting and aeronautic engineering, placing Borno State on the global aviation map. He also mentioned that 400 Borno state indigenes are pursuing PhDs and master's degrees abroad, while 100 youths are studying Medicine and related courses in China.

The governor's initiative has been welcomed by the community, with attendees at the ceremony praising the move as a step in the right direction. The event was attended by dignitaries, including Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, members of the House of Representatives, and senior government officials.

The empowerment package is part of the government's broader strategy to boost youth entrepreneurship and economic growth in Borno State. By equipping the youth with skills and resources, the administration hopes to create a more prosperous and self-sufficient community.

The launch ceremony marked a significant milestone in the government's efforts to invest in the future of Borno State, and the beneficiaries are expected to become ambassadors for the initiative, inspiring others to take advantage of the opportunities available to them.
