Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division, operating under Sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully thwarted an attempted armed robbery along the Abuja–Kaduna highway on Tuesday, averting potential harm to motorists.

A military source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the operation was triggered around 2:00 p.m. after troops received a distress alert from the Nasarawan Doka area.

Responding swiftly, the soldiers moved to the location, engaged the suspected robbers, and effectively neutralised the threat before the situation could escalate.

During the encounter, one suspect identified as Kabiru Zayyanu was apprehended with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was immediately taken to Doka General Hospital, where he received first aid.

The source said the remaining members of the gang managed to escape, prompting troops to launch a hot pursuit, although no further contact was made.

No casualties or abductions were recorded during the operation, and the arrested suspect is expected to be handed over to the appropriate security agencies following preliminary investigations.

The source added that security along the highway remains stable, with troops maintaining a strong presence and continuing to dominate the area to deter criminal activity.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Nigerian Army urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to security authorities.
