NEO Black Movement of Africa

The Neo Black Movement of Africa, Lekki Chapter, is urging the Lagos State Government to step up internal security measures, citing a surge in kidnappings, banditry, and violent crimes nationwide. Recent incidents include abductions in Kwara and Kano, the kidnapping of worshippers from Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, and the abduction of hundreds of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger States. There's also been the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba within the past two weeks.

The group emphasizes that Lagos, as the nation's economic hub, must remain "extra vigilant and proactive" to prevent such crimes. They're calling for improved surveillance, community policing, and rapid-response systems to deter criminals and reassure residents.

President of the NBM of Africa, Lekki Chapter, Erauyi Agbon-Ifo, said Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial hub and most populous state, must scale up surveillance, community policing and rapid-response systems across major business districts, residential communities, transport hubs and border entry points.

Agbon-Ifo, in a statement, said the call for caution became especially important as the year draws to a close and many are expected to storm Lagos for the festive season.

The group urged the government to “heighten its internal security operations, especially in major business districts, residential communities, transportation hubs, and border entry points.”

He said, “As the Yuletide season approaches, a period historically associated with increased movement and higher criminal activity, the Movement appeals to Lagosians and all Nigerians to remain vigilant and prioritise their personal and community safety.

“As the nation’s economic epicentre and most densely populated state, Lagos must strengthen surveillance, community policing, and rapid-response systems to deter criminals and reassure residents.

“Lagos cannot afford any lapses. Strengthened surveillance, stronger community policing, and rapid-response mechanisms are needed to reassure residents and deter criminal elements.”

He said improved collaboration between the Lagos State Government, security agencies and community structures had become necessary to curb localised crime.
