On January 7 (KST), the Korea Epilepsy Association revealed that actor Chae Jong Hyup has made a charitable donation to support epilepsy patients struggling with medical expenses, as well as initiatives aimed at improving public awareness of the condition.
Expressing his motivation, Chae shared that he deeply understands the challenges faced by people living with epilepsy. He said he hopes the contribution, though modest, will provide meaningful support and encouragement to children with epilepsy and to the families and caregivers who stand by them.
The actor’s advocacy is deeply personal. Chae Jong Hyup was diagnosed with epilepsy during his high school years, a condition that ultimately led to his exemption from mandatory military service.
Kim Heung Dong, chairman of the Korea Epilepsy Association and a pediatric neurologist at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, praised the gesture, describing it as a powerful message of solidarity. He noted that the donation reflects genuine empathy for the struggles endured by epilepsy patients and their families.
Kim further emphasized the importance of visibility and courage, stating that individuals with epilepsy should be empowered to speak openly and challenge the persistent stigma and misconceptions surrounding the condition in society.
Chae first rose to public prominence in 2019 through his role as Yoo Min Ho in the hit baseball drama Stove League, which marked a major turning point in his acting career.
Since then, he has remained consistently active across television dramas and variety shows, steadily expanding his presence in the entertainment industry.
Looking ahead, Chae is set to return to the small screen in MBC’s upcoming Friday–Saturday drama In the Season of Your Radiance, slated for broadcast in 2026.
Through both his work and his advocacy, Chae Jong Hyup continues to use his platform to inspire understanding, compassion, and meaningful change.
